Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to attend an Orientation session?
Orientation is really the beginning of your college career at SDSU. The Orientation program is designed to help you make a successful transition to the university by preparing you for the academic and social changes that all new students face. The registration process is different from that which you are familiar with during high school or at your current university. Without the assistance of our staff and your academic advisor, registration will become a complicated and time consuming process.

Are parents required to come to Orientation with their son or daughter?
Parents are not required to attend Orientation, but are welcome to attend.  The summer Orientation programs have informational sessions specifically for parents.  These sessions offer unique opportunities for parents to have their questions answered.

What if I cannot make it to any scheduled Orientation session?
Your bright future begins with Orientation, so it's important that you make an effort to attend one of the scheduled Orientation sessions.  If this becomes problematic please contact our office as soon as possible by calling (605) 688-6283.

After I attend Orientation and have registered for my classes, can I buy my books from the bookstore online?
Yes!  You can go visit the Bookstore by clicking on
Textbook Selection to purchase your books for the upcoming semester.
