Welcome to residential life at State University! The Department of Residential Life's mission is to provide a safe living environment that promotes personal growth, fosters student learning, stresses responsible behavior and encourages community involvement.

The concept of group living in SDSU's residence halls acknowledges that the hall is not just a place to sleep and study. The hall experience, with the relationships you enjoy and the activities in which you participate, is an integral part of your total learning experience here at SDSU. As a member of a residence hall community, you will encounter a variety of new opportunities and experiences. The hall staff will encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities, but only you can guarantee that they have value by your willingness to get involved and to participate.

Goals...

The Department of Residential Life has identified five primary goals to benefit students living in the halls. They are:

  1. To provide safe, clean, functional and attractive facilities.
  2. To foster a supportive environment for learning - academic and personal.
  3. To stress responsible behavior and respect for others' rights.
  4. To provide social and educational programming.
  5. To promote opportunities for personal development.

The Department of Residential Life is very proud of the quality housing opportunities on campus and of the recent upgrades to meet resident’s requests and needs. All first and second year students are required to live in university housing unless they are living at home. Each residence hall is administered by a Residence Hall Director. These full-time, live-in professionals are assisted by Resident Assistants (RAs) who are undergraduate students living on each house.

Residents are encouraged to cooperate in the development of the hall environment that is suitable for all residents. Just as in other communities that make up society, freedom within limits is a guiding principle. Further information about campus housing can be found in other sections of this web site.
